Downtown Austin During Covid

Austin, Texas 2020-2021

This is a short street photography series exploring Austin, Texas during a time when people were trying to make sense of life in the wake of covid. My family and I returned home to America at the end of 2019 and were welcomed back to life in masks and isolation. I wanted so badly to get out and explore I started wandering the streets of Austin looking for moments of connection and honesty. I couldn’t figure out what it meant to be a street photographer in America, especially when I needed to be at least 7 feet away from all humans. Most of these images are sadly so far from others and lack emotional depth because of hyperawareness of physical distance between myself and others. The time was filled with a lot of confusion and loneliness trying to figure out where we belonged in America and how to create connection when the world was closed off to it. As time went on and more things opened up and masks were not always required, we had decided to move to Dallas in search of our place of belonging.
