Billed as “A dance party for ladies who have sh*t to do in the morning,” the roving event touched down in Dallas—and ended by 10 pm.

Earlybirds Club, a roving dance party that stopped at The Studio at the Bomb Factory, felt like walking into a high school dance, but in the best way. Only your best lady friends, young and old, are there, plus others from all over the city who are looking to dance their hearts out to favorites from the ’80s, ’90s, and early 2000s. The dress code: comfort. As I bounced through the crowd, weaving around to capture lively moments, I accidentally bumped into a couple of strangers, most of whom responded with an “Oh, I’m sorry!”

The bar was a space for best friends to share secrets and the surrounding walls cradled those who needed time to warm up to the crowd. Although I was just an observer peering into little pockets of friends who came with their own groups (including a few dressed as grannies), I felt invited into everyone’s space to sing along to The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” or throw my hands up to Beyoncé’s “Run The World (Girls)”. Women need more safe, welcoming spaces that spread the message: “come as you are.”
